It’s a couple
of weeks away as I write this, but too many people don’t, or won’t, understand
the meaning behind Memorial Day. I read
somewhere that veterans from World War Two are dying at the rate of 1000 a day
and, if that’s true, we are losing a national treasure. Every veteran, of any hot war, returns home a
changed person. However they went into
the service, and remember it’s all volunteer, they come back forever
changed. Pat Tillman, who is the only
celebrity that I can name right now, went to war when he didn’t have to. In World War Two, big name Hollywood
stars went to war without being drafted.
Some everyday guys who were in the service, came back and became big
stars. Combat veterans, every single one
of them, have stories that should be told, but mostly never are. You cannot go anywhere in the United States,
on any day, and not run into a veteran…whether you know he’s a veteran or
not. If you know a veteran, thank them
for their service, because whatever they did, or sacrificed, allows the rest of
us to live as we do. They are, as a
class, very close-mouthed about what they did, what they saw and how it
affected them. Now and then I see old
movies on the TV about World War Two and think that there has to be a grain of
truth in the story. There were Army Air
Corps(that’s what they called the Air Force then) commanding officers that
surely agonized about sending hundreds of young men to fly into flak-filled
skies over Europe. The death rate of the combined groups that
made up the 8th Air Force was nothing short of horrific. The war in the Pacific was equally terrible,
perhaps even more so because the enemy, the Japanese, had no problems being
kamakazi pilots and flying to their death onto ships of the US Navy. The Japanese army, and a lot of civilians had
been taught that the Americans were barbarians and so they chose to fight to
the last man. Many civilians jumped off
cliffs, with their children, rather than be captured by the Americans. The island hopping strategy took a tremendous
toll on Marines and soldiers charging onto a nearly-naked beach and facing
killing zones of machine guns set up by the Japanese. Throughout American history, the US Navy has
taken care of business…from the shores of Tripoli
where we sent a small detachment of Marines and quelled the Barbary Pirates, to
the Strait of Hormuz where elements of our
Navy keep the shipping lanes open.
Korea, which was my war, although I didn’t see combat, pitted American
forces, sometimes in near freeze-to-death weather against a North Korean army
and, by proxy but sometimes directly, a Chinese army of overwhelming odds and
the US Eighth Army suffered a decisive defeat. The two Gulf wars, for whatever
reason they were started, had US forces not only fighting a declared enemy but,
for the first time, their own government which had installed some Rules For
Engagement that put American forces at a disadvantage. Although it was an important event, the
killing of Osama Bin Laden, was mostly symbolic in its importance. We are now engaged in a battle, albeit an
undeclared war, with a shadowy enemy who could be right alongside an American
trooper on any given day. To this day,
volunteer members of the armed forces face the possibility of green-on-blue
attacks. So, my friends, from World War
One, which was supposed to be the war to end all wars, and from which we got
troops that were gassed, that were introduced to mechanized warfare with the
introduction of the tank, and going even further back, to our own war between
the states…there is a reason, a very good reason, to observe Memorial Day. Not for the automobile sales, not for the
department store sales, and not for appliance sales…it is a day to memorialize
our fallen, our wounded, our heroes, men and women who experienced horror and
may never speak about it. The last
Monday in May is, and should be, recognized as a time to honor them. Remember…all gave some, some gave all.

MUSINGS...
MUSINGS... Now and again, Americans should
look back at the past because, as George Santyana said, Those who do not
remember the past are condemned to repeat it.World War II was the most
destructive conflict in history. It cost more money, damaged more property,
killed more people, and caused more far-reaching changes than any other war in
history. The wars following World War
Two, while they might be just as violent, don’t compare in scope to The Big
One. In the late 1930’s the United States
was about 17 down on the list of nations considered to be world powers. At the end of the war we were the one and
only superpower. In the 1930s, the U.S.
Army had only about 130,000 soldiers, making it the sixteenth largest force in
the world, smaller than Czechoslovakia,
Poland, Turkey, Spain,
and Romania. At one facility, Willow Run, it was said that
they turned out a complete B-24 Liberator bomber every 55 minutes. Between 1939 and 1945, the Allies dropped
3.4 million tons of bombs, which averaged to 27,700 tons per month. From
1940-1945, the U.S. defense
budget increased form $1.9 billion to $59.8 billion. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attack, there were 96 ships anchored. During
the attack, 18 were sunk or seriously damaged, including eight battleships.
There were 2,402 American men killed and 1,280 injured. Three hundred and fifty
aircraft were destroyed or damaged.
More than 650,000
Jeeps were built during WWII. American factories also produced 300,000 military
aircraft; 89,000 tanks; 3 million machine guns; and 7 million rifles. In 1944 alone, the United States manufactured 96,318
aircraft. We made 60,973 tanks. Rifles and carbines made during the war
totaled 12,500,000. Hollywood played its part, and not just by
making movies, but providing real heroes.
Several famous actors were decorated during WWII. For example, Henry
Fonda won a Bronze Star in the Pacific, Walter Matthau was awarded six battle
stars while serving on a B-17, and David Niven was awarded the U.S. Legion of
Merit. Ernest Borgnine and Tony Curtis
both served in the Navy and Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable flew combat missions
over Europe.
So…why am I telling you this?
Because, my friends, the United
States is facing an enemy more heinous, more
sinister, more barbaric, than the Nazis…and that’s saying something.
Somebody sent me a
picture of Ronald Reagan with the caption, “If I were still around IS-IS would
be was-was.” We’ve had several really
good men in the Oval Office…men that knew what was needed and took the
necessary action. Sadly, what we have
now is a person who’s devoted to denigrating the United States, reducing it to a
second, or third-world, entity. Because
his agenda was carefully planned, even though he announced what he was going to
do, and he moves in baby steps, the American public has been largely agreeable
to whatever he proposes, and the feckless Congress goes along, seemingly more
interested in their individual re-election, their party’s power and whatever
else they can negotiate for themselves…instead of the security of the country
in which they live and have sworn an oath to protect.
In about the same
time it took for the Obamacare website to get up and running…and it still isn’t
running as good as Amazon or even H&R Block, the United States rose to
become a world power, out-producing every other country, and contributed
mightily to winning World War Two. From
a nation deep into a depression to the most powerful country on the face of the
earth…ever, in about 6 years…the same number of years we’ve had an
appeaser-in-chief in the White House. Arthur
Neville Chamberlain was a British Conservative politician who served as Prime
Minister of the United
Kingdom from May 1937 to May 1940.
Chamberlain is best known for his appeasement foreign policy, and in particular
for his signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, conceding the German speaking
Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia
to Germany. Like Obama, Chamberlain took the word of a
warmonger, and like Chamberlain, our country will suffer the consequences.
There were several
decisive battles, both in the European theater of operations and the
Pacific. The battle of Kasserine Pass in
Tunisia, as an example, where our untested troops went up against seasoned
German troops and was significant as the
first large-scale meeting of American and German forces in World War II, the
relatively untested and poorly led American troops suffered heavy casualties
and were pushed back over 50 mi from their positions west of Faid Pass in the
initial days of the battle. In the aftermath, the U.S. Army instituted sweeping
changes from unit-level organization to the replacing of commanders. When the
same combatants next met, in some cases only weeks later, the U.S. forces were
considerably more effective. The Siege of Bastogne was an engagement in December
1944 between American and German forces at the Belgian town of Bastogne, as part
of the larger Battle of the Bulge. The siege lasted from December 20–27 when the
besieged American forces were relieved by elements of General George Patton's
Third Army. In the Pacific, the
island-hopping campaign raged, and several significant battles were
fought. The Battle of Guadalcanal and
codenamed Operation Watchtower by Allied forces, was a military campaign fought
between 7 August 1942 and 9 February 1943 on and around the island of Guadalcanal
in the Pacific theatre of World War II. It was the first major offensive by
Allied forces against the Empire of Japan.
Guadalcanal marked
the transition by the Allies from defensive operations to the strategic
offensive in that theatre and the beginning of offensive operations, including the
Solomon Islands, New
Guinea, and Central Pacific campaigns. There was the Marianas
“turkey shoot”, so named because of the ratio of Japanese planes shot down as
compared to Americans. There was
Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa also, all with
horrendous losses of American troops. Australia, which was to have been the prize in the
Japanese conquest plan, was never taken and I like to think it was because of
our PT boats, one of which was commanded by a certain Navy LT named Kennedy. Folks, I bring this up because our
once-vaunted armed forces are not respected or feared anymore. We are a paper tiger.

OUT OF THE DESK DRAWER.
OUT
OF THE DESK DRAWER. I like quotes. They are words that have been said by people
a whole lot smarter than I am, and sometimes even bad guys say the right
things...like this quote: “Think of the
press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.” Doesn't that sound really appropriate for
our times, when objectivity of the media seems to have flown out the
window? Now here's the part that gets
me...this is a quote from the master of propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.
Dear
Leader...that would be the imposter-in-chief, keeps telling us that the
Southern border is secure. His
underlings repeat those same talking points...however, if you take the time for
find out the truth it will shake you down to your shoes. Here's a starter for you. ISIS is in Mexico, and running a training
camp, supported by the cartels, just 8 miles from the border! "Coyotes" working for the
notorious Juarez Cartel are involved in helping to "move ISIS terrorists
through the desert and across the border between Santa Teresa and Sunset Park, New
Mexico."
Moreover, east of El Paso and Ciudad
Juárez, cartel-backed coyotes are smuggling members of the jihadi terrorist
group "through the porous border between Acala and Fort Hancock, Texas,"
Judicial Watch reported. The group says
that these locations were targeted for exploitation by ISIS
"because of their understaffed municipal and county police forces, and the
relative safe-havens the areas provide for the unchecked large-scale drug
smuggling that was already ongoing."
That's an excerpt from a report by Judicial Watch, and they got it from
a Mexican army field grade officer.
I
want to scold the government, the administration AND the congress, for not
giving the wounded and dead in the Fort
Hood shooting, the Purple
Heart AND all the benefits and/or any back pay that may have accrued. First, to call that workplace violence is a
lesson in semantics, played out for the single purpose of not damaging the Muslim-in-chief's
political progress and legacy. There is
nothing that he does, that is not political and yes, he will put politics above
American lives...every time. His buddy,
Mr. Ketchup(aka John Kerry) will sign anything that is put in front of him if
he's told to do it...which is a contradiction of his oath of office and to
some, like me, could be considered treasonous.
It's time, again, to review that.
Article III, Section 3 — Treason:
The authors were concerned about the definition of treason. They thought
that it was used too broadly to define any dissenting opinions. Their new
country would be much stricter about what treason was, and how one would be
accused and convicted of it. Treason,
then, is defined only as going to war against the USA,
or aiding the enemies of the USA.
To be convicted, the accused must confess to treason, or be accused by two
direct witnesses of the treason. The
authors were also concerned that the person convicted of treason be the only
one to suffer for the treasonous acts. The Constitution explicitly states that
there may be no "corruption of blood," or that the children and
relatives of the traitor not be considered traitorous simply by relation; the
"no forfeiture" clause basically means that once the traitor dies, "payment"
for the crime ends.
A
little over a year ago, it was reported by Kris Zane, writing in Western
Journalism and this is some of what he said...Would it surprise you to know
there were large contingents of Chinese troops on American soil last year? Not
until a video was leaked of Chinese troops training at Fort
Shafter, Honolulu, Hawaii
did the Obama administration come out with the obvious lie that they were
taking part in a “drill.” The drill—dubbed GridExII—simulated the detonation of
a massive nuclear warhead high above the skies of the United States, creating a giant EMP that took
out the U.S.
electrical grid, communications, and banking services.
The Chinese are in fact developing an
EMP weapon according to classified documents.
The Chinese have been openly bragging about how their new DF-41 nuclear
missile—with a staggering twelve warheads—can cripple the United States in a mere thirty
minutes. These events do not indicate
Obama is in collusion with the communist Chinese, planning a takeover of the U.S.
But add the fact that Obama is fervently trying to disarm the American public.
Add the fact that the Obama administration is buying up billions of rounds of
ammunition, leading to a nationwide shortage. Add the fact that Obama has
instructed the National Guard to run “drills” deeming Second Amendment
supporters as domestic terrorists—one must ask: Is Obama opening up America
for a Chinese “Red Dawn” Invasion.
Now,
add to that the decimation of the armed forces. Add to that the newly-discovered operation
dubbed Jade Helm 15, and put that together with Agenda 21. When looked at as a big picture, it's as
clear as the nose on your face that "something" is going on...and
it's not for the benefit of the United
States.
There's just too many coincidental things happening, like a well-planned
sequence of events...a line of dominos if you will. He mentioned, during his initial run for the
White House that he wanted a "civilian national security force that's just
as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded". Think about it.

RECENT HEADLINES…AND OTHER STUFF
RECENT
HEADLINES…AND OTHER STUFF.
Recently there
was a really unappreciated occurrence at the University
of California at Irvine.
Someone, and I don’t know who exactly, complained about flying the flag
of the United States. Really?
Really! Who are these people
that can take umbrage about flying the flag that represents the country in
which they live? The country which, as
a matter of fact, guarantees them the right to speak out about the flag, even
to the point of burning it…but not flying it sounds to me like it’s just plain
wrong. In what parallel universe are
they living, where countless men and women have died to give them the rights
that they scorn? Whoever you are,
listen up…you have the right, paid for in blood, to say things, do things, that
are against the government…you also have the obligation to back up what you say
and do, and you may encounter some other people that have opposite views from
yours. When that happens, be prepared
to either put up or shut up…and I’d really like to be there when that
happens. It should be very
interesting. In my youth we stood up in
school and pledged allegiance to that flag, and to the republic for which it
stands, and whether you utter the words “under God” or not, that’s a personal
choice. If you cannot pledge your
allegiance, my words are simply these…love it or leave it. You think there’s a better country somewhere
else, by all means go there…but don’t come back because we don’t need any
sniveling, whiney, foolish imitation Americans. Teddy Roosevelt said it “We can have no
'50-50' allegiance in this country. Either a man is an American and nothing
else, or he is not an American at all.”
According to TV commercials,
which the postal service themselves put out, they are losing 5 billion dollars
a year. I’m not a bit surprised. With the exception of one man in one postal
center, and one man on a route, everyone else with whom I’ve had dealings, has
been nonchalant about their job, and that’s putting it mildly. When I was a boy the man that delivered our
mail was pretty much on time, give or take 20 minutes, and he was friendly, and
we knew his name. Now, my mail delivery
can take place, if I get any at all, anywhere from about 9 in the morning to 8
at night, and the people change all the time.
Even allowing for inflation, the price of a first-class letter is way
over what it should be, when you factor in the service that you’re getting. Penny postcards went the way of the
buggywhip, and the automation doesn’t seem to have been perfected…at least in
my case. I sent a birthday card to
someone in the same city and it took 5 days to get there! Pony Express crossed the bulk of the United States
in that same amount of time, over 100 years ago. If it wasn’t for the fact that first-class
mail is mandated to be delivered by the US Postal Service they might as well be
shutting down…and maybe it’s time to privatize the whole thing. Ben Franklin’s Post Office was good, in its
day, but I think that day has passed.
Competence has given way to
cool…at least that’s the way I see it as we wind down this imposter-in-chief’s
time in the White House. His first
election was a social experiment, and it has failed miserably. If it wasn’t for voter fraud in the second
election, I don’t think he would have defeated Romney. Now, if Romney had won, it’s a pretty good
guess that we wouldn’t be in the ghastly situation that we’re in now. We are no longer feared because we don’t
back up what we say we’re going to do, and that’s being couple with announced
endings of wars, complete with the drawdown of the armed forces. Our country, and the government itself, is
being infiltrated with people that are sympathetic to the idea of the downfall
of the United States…and
Mr. Cool is importing them by the thousands.
Illegal aliens are being given documents that are taken at face value as
being genuine and they became virtual citizens, and as such will be voting in
all elections from city to presidential…and guess for whom they will be
voting? The Democrat party because
that’s who got them their virtual citizenship, and they will remember
that. Couple that with a declining
birth rate in certain demographics, while other demographics are popping them
out like Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn.
Dearborn, Michigan,
which now has a majority population of Muslims, can logically be called
Dearbornistan, and the state is not going to be far behind when the takeover
happens.
Thomas Jefferson, probably one
of the great visionaries ever, had a grasp of things that most people back then
never even thought about. “The tree of
liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and
tyrants.” Wake up America…it’s
time for some action.

NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW...AND OTHER MUSINGS
Larry's blog for April 6, 2013 NO ONE IS ABOVE
THE LAW...AND OTHER MUSINGS We profess, and loudly to anyone that will listen, that we are a
nation of laws...but we allow a lawless president to get away with murder,
figuratively speaking, of course. The
Congress is entrusted with making the laws, the Supreme Court is supposed to
interpret them, and the executive branch is supposed to enforce them. What we have now is one-man rule, and no
dissenting voices that can accomplish anything. Committees "look at" and
"investigate" and "make recommendations"...but nothing is
actually done. High-ranking officials,
in many agencies, give the one-finger salute, again, figuratively speaking,
when they are cited for contempt, or are issued subpeonas. Any ordinary citizen, when confronted with a
subpeona, complies or faces a fine or jail time...maybe both. Any ordinary citizen, when confronted with
being in contempt of a court, may be fined or put in jail...or both. Why then, are members of the federal government,
it's various bureaucracies and agencies, not paying any attention to these
legal summoneses or citations? Where,
in any American document, does it say that we have people who are above the
law? Not in any of the myriad of papers
that I've ever read. Equal justice
under law is what is inscribed on the front of the Supreme Court...but do we
have it? No. Our founding fathers, in their wisdom, put
in checks and balances so that no one branch of government, much less one
person, could become a dictator. They
fought a war to separate themselves from a king who ruled on whims, and they
didn't want that any more. Through our
ignorance and apathy, we, the American people, have given rise to a wannabe
king/emperor/dictator...or any other such name as you might want to apply.
My
Navy career took me to many countries and even as a "greenie", it was
plain to see that the United
States was something different, something
that the world hadn't seen before. We
had peaceful transitions of power through elections. We had an industrial force that had, at one
time, kept the world free from the Axis domination. Our people were blended, but able to retain
customs of their own backgrounds. We
were, for the most part, both feared and loved, around the world. People wanted to come here...and they still
do because the remnants of "that" America are still around. For many years, a career in the armed forces
of this country was something that could be counted on for some benefits. If you retired honorably, you could be sure
of good medical care, services at various bases could be utilized and, although
the Vietnam war changed things somewhat it was still a good thing because you
could retire early and make a decent living.
Somewhere
along the way, and I'm not sure where, things changed. Maybe the Vietnam war WAS a bigger change
than I thought. At any rate, through
various administrations, the current one being the worst, the armed forces have
become a political tool, an embarrassment, and an albatross around the
neck. Plans are now in the works to
reduce the armed services to the point where almost any country that could be
considered a peer, could take us over.
Teddy Roosevelt was the one I give the credit to for making the world
aware of the American giant. He sent a
flotilla of ships around the world, "showing the flag" is what it's
called, and the other countries took notice.
Even earlier, when the Barbary pirates were seizing American ships and
crews Thomas Jefferson sent US Marines to Tripoli
to suppress them...and suppress them he did.
Our military, and the might they
represented, could always be counted on...but now, I'm not so sure. Mid-level officers and non-coms have been
fired, leaving what I consider to be a rather ineffective core. At a time when our potential enemies, some
of whom used to be our friends, are soldiering-up, we're cutting back. That's not a good thing.
My
first car was a LaSalle that I bought from a funeral parlor. It was in excellent condition because it was
only used now and then. The important
point to be made here is that when you bought an American automobile, it WAS an
American automobile. It was designed,
assembled, and sold by Americans, and most of the time it was the best in its class. Today, even the Ford products, and I’m a
Ford guy, have foreign parts in them.
My 22 year old Ranger truck is still going strong and probably will
outlast me. On any given day, at any
hour of the day, watch the highways and you’ll see a parade of cars from Japan,
Korea, Germany, some British, and now and then a French car. When a vacuum was created because Detroit figured it didn’t
have to listen to the warnings, the little cars with good gas mileage and
reliability, filled that vacuum. There
have even been rumors that General Motors might be taken over by a foreign
automaker, but so far that’s just a rumor.
Think
about some of this stuff, folks. The
world is going topsy-turvy, and we may not be prepared for it.

LIVING IN FANTASY LAND
LIVING IN FANTASY
LAND
For a lot of Americans, these past few weeks have been all about
"bracketing", and fantasy teams...the reality is that, to Iran and
others like them, "bracketing" means one nuclear bomb just north of
Washington, and one just south of Washington.
It's almost incomprehensible to me that America,
under the leadership(or lack thereof) of a delusional administration, continues
to live in La-la Land while the rest of the world is
looking at us as if we've lost our collective minds...which we have. Time and time and again, the actions taken
by the current administration spell disaster for this country, and for some
unknown reason, Congress is unable, unwilling, or just plain cowed, into
letting these lawless practices continue.
Wake up America!
The
barbarians are not just AT the gate, they're inside the White House, and
dictating policies that are making this country into a second, or third, world
country...perhaps even just a footnote in history. A noble experiment that was cut short by
incompetence, lying, and deceit. If you
look at the administration's top echelon, you will find The Mystery Man who
deals with the United States
as if it was his private fiefdom. Then
there's Lurch, or Mr. Ketchup, who was a bad soldier, a bad Senator and now a
really bad Secretary of State. In the
background, if you look closely, you will see two women who are, actually, the
REAL president. That would be Valerie Jarret
and Susan Rice...neither of whom have any real background for advising anyone,
much less the so-called Leader Of The Free World.
Eurabia,
which used to be Europe, is drowning itself in
a sea of political correctness, demographics which work against it, and a
policy of look-the-other-way, when it comes to murder, rape, and gangs of
Muslims, all intent on making their host country return to the 7th Century and
the conditions that existed then. What
will it take, other than a "crusade" to get the Infidels to realize
what is happening, and what WILL continue to happen, unless the savages are
stopped permanently. If it takes
hunting them down, one by one, then that's what it will take. If they are allowed to continue their jihad
and attempt to subjugate the world, it will be a bloody existence, I promise
you.
Fantasy Land belongs to Disney, and nowhere
else. In the REAL world, dreams come
true only if you work your butt off and take advantage of every opportunity
that's presented to you. You needn't be
vicious, but keep in mind that the people you meet on the way to the top are
likely to be the same ones you will meet on the way down. Americans have always been innovators,
producers, and proud of what they did, and made. That brings to mind something that occurred
recently when I celebrated my 81st birthday.
One gift was a beautiful book, a historical look at the US Navy, and it
will always be treasured by me. While
checking it out I discovered that it was "manufactured in China" and
although it doesn't detract from the book itself, it does make one think.
China, once a
staunch ally, is now a potential enemy...and we get a lot of "stuff"
from there. Suppose, along with China, we were
to go to war with some other countries...countries from which we get a lot of
"stuff". That is a question
that doesn't seem to have penetrated the collective mind of Congress or the
American people. We have to get back to
being manufacturers instead of importers, and the sooner the better. Don't tell me that we can't do it because
we've done it twice before, and each time we come out on top, stronger, with
more knowledge and with better resources.
How about looking for THIS,
"Proudly Made In The United States" instead of "Made in China",
when you buy something. We need to move
out of Fantasy Land.
